Scenario drills

  1. Where do 'sold products' fit?

    “Sales operations wants every SKU we sell in the CMDB. Which CSDM domain?”

    Approach

    • Manage domain — Product Offering / Sold Product classes, tied to Service Offerings.
    • Sold Products link to customer accounts, entitlements, and revenue — they're consumption-facing, not infrastructure.
    • Never model them under cmdb_ci_hardware or a random custom class.
    soldProduct.name         = 'Payroll — Gold';
    soldProduct.service_offering = svcOffering.sys_id;

    Alternate approach

    Alternate: if you only need subscription tracking, use the CSM Subscription table and reference the Service Offering — lighter than full Sold Product modeling.

    Pitfall

    Stuffing SKUs into Business Application creates a 5,000-row 'app' list nobody trusts.
